Allan Francis Beaupre's Obituary

Allan Francis Beaupre, 83 of Canton, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain following a well-lived and joyful life.

A beloved engineer and devoted family man, Al was born December 17, 1940, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan to Harold A. Beaupre, of the Detroit Police, and estate manager for the Webber family of the J.L Hudson Co., and Betty. Al graduated from Saint Paul's Catholic High School in 1958 and the University of Detroit in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with minors in mathematics and physics, and a MS in Management from Florida State University in 1967. Identified as one of the top 6% engineers in the country, Al was first a test engineer for General Dynamics in Cocoa Beach, Florida before working for Harris Corporation for 23 years where he rose to Vice President and General Manager. A quintessential "rocket scientist" Al worked on numerous pioneering unmanned space satellites, rockets and other projects including "Surveyor" which was one of the first spacecraft on the moon, telecommunications systems at White Sands, New Mexico, and air traffic control technology for the British Royal Airforce, the US Department of Defense, and the US Federal Aviation Administration. In 1991 he became Vice President of Research and Development Engineering at Scientific-Atlanta where he led projects related to the origins of broadband and wireless communication services before retiring with his wife, Janet, a middle school math teacher, to Alpharetta, Georgia in 1997, and then moving to Canton, GA in 2005 down the street from their youngest daughter, Yvonne, and her two children. Married for 51 years, Al was first and foremost a family man who enjoyed gardening, numerous sports including sailing, tennis, golf, and rowing, playing with his children and grandchildren, and traveling with his wife.

Al was preceded in death by his brother Richard and sister Ann and is survived by his sister Janet (Ken Boland) of Rochester, MI; his loving wife Janet; daughters Heather Patisaul (Scott Belcher) of Cary, NC and Yvonne Buchberger of Canton, GA; grandchildren Bryce Patisaul, Sarah Patisaul, Samantha Buchberger, Andrew Buchberger, and Zoe Belcher
