Betty Joyce Gailey, age 90 of Canton, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Woodstock Nursing Home. The family will receive friends at Darby Funeral Home on Friday, November 12th from 10am-9pm. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 13th at 1pm at Sweetwater Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Gayton officiating. Betty Gailey, a retiree from Lucent Technology and a long time resident of Canton, Georgia passed away peacefully on November 7, 2021 at the age of 90.
Betty was born on December 7, 1930 in Polk County, Georgia to Floyd Hitchcock and Bonnie Barrett (Welchel).
Betty was a devoted mother of two daughters Charlotte Easterwood Lewis and Janice Easterwood Johnson both deceased. She is best known as Nanny Bet by family, friends, and neighbors.
Nanny Bet is a beloved Grandmother to Cristy Lewis Champion who she helped raise, and a great grandmother to Bren Champion whom she adored.
Nanny Bet enjoyed going to gospel singing events and taking day trips. She loved working in her yard and always had beautiful flowers. She was "known" for her yard. Strangers would often stop and ask about her beautiful flowers. Nanny Bet was also known for her acts of kindness.
She was a strong willed and stubborn spitfire of a woman. A beautiful soul who will be deeply missed.
