Bill Eugene Garrison, age 83 of Canton, passed away on Monday, October 2nd at Canton Nursing Center. The family will receive friends at Darby Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 3rd from 4:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. and Wednesday, October 4th from 10:30a.m. to 12:30p.m. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 4th at 12:30p.m. from the chapel of Darby Funeral Home with Dr. George Anderson and Rev. John Gregory officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery at 2:30p.m.
Billy Eugene "Bill" Garrison, b. March 23, 1934 in Cherokee County, Georgia. Billy is the great, great, great, great grandson of Captain Nehemiah Garrison who was one of the first settlers of Cherokee County, Georgia. For many years Captain Garrison represented Hall County, Georgia in the Georgia Senate and in 1839 he moved to Cherokee County. Bill graduated from Draughn's Business College, Atlanta, GA. In 1956 he served in the United States Army, Fort Hood, Texas. From 1952 to 1996 he was employed in Manufacturing Research, Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, Marietta, Georgia. Bill is the holder of a US Patent for a part he designed for Lockheed. He was a member of the Cherokee County, Georgia historical society; extensive collection of Cherokee Indian artifacts; quality clocks and guns. For many years he restored old Farmall tractors. He traveled extensively taking his grandchildren along during the summer months to historical sites and places in the United States including the Artic Circle in Alaska. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton, Georgia. Bill married Martha Jane Hill Garrison on June 1, 1956 in Canton. She died August 5, 2008. He is survived by three daughters, Sharon Garrison of Canton; Naticia Garrison of Canton; Theresa and Michael John "Mike" Knowles of Haslet, Texas; brothers-n-law: Ron Hill, Sr. and wife Shirley of Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia; Mike Hill and wife Elizabeth of Dunwoody, Georgia; Steve Hill and wife Kathy of Blairsville, Georgia; four grandchildren: John Guy Knowles, Michael Garrison Knowles, Claire Noel Elliott and Elizabeth Joy Elliott.
