Don Holyfield age 68 of Jasper died on Saturday November 22,2014 Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday from the Chapel of Darby funeral Home , Rev. Richard Hunter and Mr. Chip Rogers will officiate Interment will be in Georgia National Cemetery, with Military Honors. Family will receive friends on Monday from 4PM – 8PM at the Funeral Home. Survivors are his wife Vickie Holyfield , Jasper, GA , Mother Gotelind R. Holyfield, Mabelton, GA Son Shon Holyfield, OR Step Sons, John Benjamin Suddeth , Orlando, FL & Steophen Douglas Suddeth, Orlando, FL Granddaughters, Sarah Holyfield, & Juliet Holyfield, OR Preceded in death by daughter Summer Dominica Holyfield.
Don Holyfield is a pioneer in wealth management, with more than 35
years of financial planning, investment, insurance, and financial services
experience consulting and advising individuals, professionals, executives,
and business owners. His lifetime of leadership and achievements has
imbued him with the ability to help his clients realize their life potential.
Years ago, Don had a vision to provide clients the necessary tools to
realistically find a path that allows them to self‐discover, design, and live
the life that they want.
Don founded Sequoyah Planning II, LLC as an independent Registered Investment Advisory firm in order to fully serve his clients.
During his professional career, he has earned from the American College the designation of Chartered Life
Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant. Before becoming an independent Registered Investment
Advisor, from 1989 to 2000 as Associate General Agent for New England Financial, Don was recognized as
being in the Top 10 in performance nationwide. From 2001‐2005 he was recognized by Peachtree Planning
Corporation as one of their leading offices in the southeast. Don now applies that motivation for success
directly to his clients and continues to be a leading force in the industry. Don has written numerous newspaper
and magazine articles about financial planning and wealth management.
Don received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Commerce from the
University of Richmond. He went on to graduate from Infantry Officer Candidate School as a Lieutenant in
the United States Army, completed Airborne School, Jungle School, Vietnamese Language School, was a
Mobile Advisor Team leader in Vietnam and won the Bronze Star for meritorious service.
Don received one of the highest honors awarded in the United States of the Edward E. Phillips Award for
Outstanding Citizenship. He was selected as one of the few national honorees to be a Community Hero
Olympic Torchbearer for the 1996 Olympic Games. Don is listed in the International Directory of Distinguished
Leadership. He raised over $250,000 for the Leukemia Society of America through their program,
Team in Training. Don completed the Marine Corps marathon, the New York City Marathon, the Bermuda
Marathon and the El Tour de Tucson Century Bike Race, all for the benefit of The Leukemia Society of
America.
Raised in Virginia, Don was taught by his family that achievement in life had no limits other than what one
self‐imposes. In his youth, he was honored as football player of the year, lettered in football, All State Band,
Honor Society, Editor of his High School annual, was a weekly broadcaster for WROV Radio Teen Town, and
toured Europe playing concerts in eight cities and winning second place in a world marching competition in
Nice, France.
Don is married to the love of his life, Vickie. They enjoy hiking with their dogs, Bubby and Chloe, near their
home in the North Georgia mountains, and acting as staff for their three cats. The caring staff of the Darby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
