Obituary

Doris Lavern Ball Adkerson, age 84, of Covington, formerly of Canton, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 surrounded by her family.
Mom did not have the luxuries afforded to her children. She worked on her father's farm while still going to school. She spoke often of her love for playing basketball in high school. Mom was married to Charles Adkerson, Jr. for twenty-eight years. She and my father worked many years in the Canton Textile Mill. Eventually we all moved to Roswell, Georgia, where both mom and dad went to work for Roswell Seating Company. This is where mom found her calling. She loved and excelled in the woodworking trade. She and her supervisor, a.k.a. best friend, Archie Castleberry started their own cabinet making business after the Seating Company closed. Mom was the supervisor, draftsman and installer, while Archie handled purchasing and sales. She spent some of her happiest days helping make Castleberry's Interiors a success.
As the eldest son, I think I speak for sisters as well, by stating that the vast amount of love we have for our Mother was in large part due to her commitment to succeed with the things she loved. She did everything possible to make sure we were never hungry or cold. She loved her flowers and collectible figurines. Mom fabricated her own display cabinets for her collectibles. She also loved nothing better than to cook an enormous feast for her family on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Everyone loved to go to see Memaw.
In closing, again I speak for my self and my sisters in saying that we love and respect you very much, Mom. Your wonderful and caring heart lives on in us all.
Known to most as Lavern, she is survived by two sisters, Martha and Hazel and one brother, Jay Carroll. Mom is survived by three children, Larry, Joan and Gail. Danny, her youngest son, passed away in 1980. Memaw is also survived by 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. We love you, Memaw and will miss you always.
