Obituary

ALBRECHT, DOROTHY J (nee Quick)
Dottye Albrecht, 73, of Ball Ground, passed away Sunday April 15, 2018 at home, with family members at her side, following an extended illness. Memorial Services will be held 12:30PM Tuesday April 24, 2018 from the Chapel of Darby Funeral Home, Canton, GA, with Interment to follow in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. Father James E. O'Neal will officiate.

The daughter of Harry H. and Jewel H. Quick, she was born at Fort McPherson, Atlanta, on February 20, 1945. The family moved to South Florida in 1955, where she would later meet the love of her life, Richard. They were married in 1975, and returned to the Atlanta area in 1978, where she continued her career in Accounting.
Following the birth of their daughter in 1980, she began pursuing her second career in Child Education and Development, and opened her own daycare center, Kids Unlimited, in Woodstock, in 1988. Dottye truly loved the child care business, and was known throughout the community for her work with children and families in need. She received the Optimist of the Year award from the Midday Optimist Club of Woodstock in 1997. An accomplished cook, she loved entertaining and hosting large parties at her home. In 2007 she and her husband sold the daycare business and retired to Ball Ground. She is survived by her husband Richard, loving daughter and son-in-law Keri and Jeff Lively, granddaughter Rachael Lively, brother James L Quick, niece Penny M Coverdale (Shannon), nephew Tim Quick, and Peter J Lapniewski, six grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and many close friends and neighbors.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the Doctors and nursing staff at Northside Cherokee Hospital, Amity Care of Marietta, and Aiken Regional Medical Center, for their compassionate and outstanding caregiving. A special thank you to Dr. Gena Volas-Redd, of Georgia Cancer Specialists, who saw her through two years of successful cancer treatments; Nurses Venus, Wanda, Andrea, and Shannon, at Northside Cherokee; Nurses Katie and Jennifer from Amity Care, and most especially, to Dr. Tareq Haidary, and the ICU Nurses at Aiken RMC, for their incredible efforts in arranging to bring Dottye back home.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to the Cherokee County Animal Shelter, 131 Chattin Dr., Canton, GA (770) 345-7270.
The staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the Albrecht Family.
