Betsy Taylor
July 10, 1950 – April 10, 2022

Elizabeth Jane (McIntosh) Taylor, known as Betsy, age 71, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2022 in Canton, Georgia surrounded by the people who loved her the most. She was born on July 10, 1950 in Ossining, New York, to Alexander Andrew McIntosh and Mary Noreen (Justin) McIntosh.

Betsy grew up in Berkley, Michigan and graduated from Shrine High School in Royal Oak, Michigan in 1968. After high school, Betsy pursued a career as a paraprofessional at Brandon Schools in Ortonville, Michigan where she worked for 15 years. Betsy loved working with children.

Betsy married Mark Allan Taylor on December 12, 1969 in Royal Oak. They were happily married for over 52 years. In 2003, after many years of family trips to the Tennessee mountains, the couple moved to Dunlap. Shortly thereafter, Betsy courageously and successfully fought breast cancer, receiving so much support from the small Tennessee community. In 2009, Betsy and Mark built their dream home in the North Georgia mountains. Betsy loved spending quiet mornings sitting on her back deck overlooking Lake Arrowhead admiring birds and other wildlife!

Betsy loved living so close to Atlanta. Betsy and Mark attended many Atlanta Falcons football games and Atlanta Braves baseball games. Like many Braves fans, Betsy had to celebrate the 2021 World Series victory with pearls! Betsy loved spending time in Piedmont Park and seeing the holiday lights each year at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. She never missed the Atlanta Pride Parade and her Proud Mom shirt was the source of many hugs, happy tears, and selfies with strangers who were so proud of her for being there!

Betsy was a member of numerous environmental groups and was very actively involved in many nature and environmental causes. She enjoyed traveling and had visited all of the fifty states and several foreign countries. She enjoyed sports, camping, birding, and crafting.

Betsy was a long time supporter of the St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, Montana; a place she deeply cherished and visited often. Betsy loved to combine visits to St. Labre with trips to Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park, two of her favorite places in the United States.

She loved animals and was often seen in the company of Charlie, the family dog and her constant companion; her best, best boy! Betsy loved to laugh and enjoyed life to the fullest!

Betsy is survived by her spouse, Mark, of Waleska, Georgia; her son Michael Joseph (Juan Escamilla) of Atlanta, Georgia; her daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Tim Sabados) of Lake Orion, Michigan; her sister Susan McIntosh of Columbus, Ohio; her grandchildren Mackenzie Tison and Zoe Tison both of Lake Orion, Michigan; her goddaughter Katherine Ramos Avila of Portland, Oregon; and her in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Mary Noreen McIntosh; her sister Ellen McIntosh; and her brother William McIntosh.
