Gregory Scott Gilliam, Sr., age 61 of Canton, passed away Monday, November 16, 2015. A native of Decatur, GA, Greg graduated from Decatur High School and received his Associate Degree from Dekalb Community College.
Greg is survived by his son, Greg Gilliam, Jr. of Stafford, VA; daughter, Michelle Washburn of Gambrills, MD; father, W.X. "Pat" Durkee, Sr. of Hartwell, GA; brother, Steven P. Gilliam of Gainesville, GA; sister, Laura Gilliam of Covington, GA; friend and companion, Jackie White of Canton, GA; step-brother, W.X. "Sonny" Durkee, Jr. of Elberton, GA; step-sisters, Elizabeth Durkee of Annapolis, MD; Melissa Krebs of Swedesboro, NJ; Karen Durkee of Commerce, GA; and 4 grandchildren. Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Carlene Esma Fincher Durkee; brother, Wayne Gilliam; and step-sister, Terri Bress.
Greg was a beloved father, son, brother, mentor, and friend to many. He was a master mechanic for more than 40 years who enjoyed building and tinkering with anything he touched. He was a former Army soldier who enjoyed the outdoors walking his dog or relaxing at his favorite spot on the beach. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Greg will be remembered as a man who placed the priorities of others before his own. He will be missed.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 12 noon at Darby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donald G. Barber officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 6PM-8PM at Darby Funeral Home in Canton, GA.
