Harold (Hal) Rolf Schmidt, 87, of Ball Ground, GA passed away on Sunday February 14th, 2021 in the presence of family.

He is recently preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma June Schmidt, of 48 years. He is survived by his Brother, Eric (Louise) Schmidt of York, SC; His children: Laura DuBard of Mooresville, NC; Karen Hueni of Nokesville, VA; Keith (Jodi) Schmidt of Tacoma, WA; Donald Schmidt of Hagerstown, MD; Richard (Heather) Cope of Canton, Christine (Kurt) Bushuiakovish of Holly Springs, William (Bonita) Cope of Naperville, IL; Robert Schmidt of Ball Ground; His 14 Grandchildren, and 10 Great-Grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Hal was passionate about being a pilot. After graduating from the Casey Jones Institute of Aeronautics in NY, he pursued his love for flying in the Civil Air Patrol where he served as a Senior Pilot and Squadron Commander for almost 20 years. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1973.
He was a respected and dedicated CFO at Dealer Performance Group for over a decade. When he wasn't working, Hal enjoyed cruising in his 2004 Thunderbird with the top down and his cherished bride by his side. One of his hobbies was weekly trivia in Ball Ground with his son Bob (Robert) where they put up some tough competition. Hal was faithful to God and his Ball Ground United Methodist Church family.
Of all the accomplishments that Hal earned throughout his life, and there were many, his most treasured one was his family. He provided jokes, stories, German translations for curious grandkids, and lasting memories. His devoted love for Norma was an inspiration. His intelligence was remarkable, and his smile and quick wit will be forever missed.
