Henry Richard "Dick" Baker passed away suddenly at home on September 11th 2015. He was born on March 26, 1939 in Andover, NY the son of Harry and Augusta (Lewis ) Baker.
He graduated from Andover Central School in 1957 and attended Alfred State College for building trades. He was in the construction field for many year working for several construction companies before starting his own company.
In 1997 he came to Georgia to work for The L.C. Whitford Company. While employed there, he rehabilitated 4 covered bridges in the state of Georgia. Most recently he had been employed by Hawks Ridge Golf Club in charge of building maintenance.
Dick was a lifetime member of the Andover Rod & Gun Club, a charter member of the Andover Lions Club, and a 50 year member of the Grand Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons of the state of NY.
In 1977 he was united in marriage to Melinda (Baker) who survives him. Also surviving are 3 sons. Kevin (Judy) Baker of Lowell, NC, Guy (Shelly) Guns- Baker of Corning, NY, and Lee (Carolyn) Baker of Cumming, GA. One daughter Jennifer (Joseph) Lenac of Tucker, GA. 2 Stepsons Gary Hoagland of Woodstock, GA and Christopher (Samantha) Hoagland of Alpharetta, GA. And a stepdaughter Stefanie (Anthony) Arnaman of West Liberty, IA. Eight granddaughters, 11 grandsons, and 2 great granddaughters.
He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Robert D. Baker, a sister Dorothy Schultheis, and a grandson Scott Hancock.
Services will be held on Wednesday September 16, 2015 at Darby Funeral Home 480 East Main Street Canton, GA 30114. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a service immediately following at 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Holly Springs F.D. First Responders Unit or the Cherokee County Animal Shelter. Flowers will also be accepted at the funeral home.
