James Mckinney "Kinney" Field Jr.'s Obituary

James McKinney Field II, "Kinney" age 74, passed away surrounded by loving family and lifelong friends on Thursday, January 17th, 2019. He was born on October 11, 1944 at Coker's Hospital in Canton, Ga., as the only child to James McKinney Field Sr. and Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Clayton Field. He attended Cherokee High School and Reinhardt University.

Kinney enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard where he proudly served his country, which he loved so dearly. In his professional life, Kinney owned and operated Fields Garage, having followed in his father's footsteps. Both he and his father renovated and collected an extensive line of antique cars. Kinney was fondly nicknamed "Munster" by his beloved Uncle Jerry, and the name stuck for the rest of his life. Kinney loved coaching football and the youth football team, "Gamecocks" and loved the Georgia Bulldogs. He also had the remarkable "gift of gab" and could talk to anyone about anything. During family gatherings, everyone wanted to sit at his table because he was a great conversationalist and avid story teller. He also had a very sharp mind and rich sense of humor, but most of all, he was uniquely tenderhearted, and his life was full of the most interesting encounters and many adventures that he frequently shared.

Kinney was an active member of Fields United Methodist Church where his great-great grandfather donated the land where the church and cemetery now stand. He remained deeply devoted to his church and the church family and he loved testifying about God's grace. The family is deeply grateful for all of the support provided to Kinney by the church and by his life-long friends over a period of many years as well as in the final months of Kinney's life.

Kinney was preceded in death by his parents James McKinney Field Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Field. He is survived by his wife Barbara Field of Canton, Ga., two sons: James McKinney Field III "Three" of Canton, Ga., and Christopher Field of Canton, Ga.; grandchildren: Clayton Field, Claudia Field, Madalyn Field, Braydon Field, and Daylon Field; and beloved cousin Barbara Fortson.
