It is with great sadness that the family of Jeanette Harrell Bagwell, a beloved resident of the Canton community, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024. She was born to the late Rufus and Martha Thompson Harrell on November 7, 1927. Always a high achiever she graduated valedictorian of her high school class and went on to attend Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton Georgia. She then went on to attend the University of Georgia to pursue a degree in Home Economics Education. While in Athens, she was a guest soloist in many churches and performed as a member of a women's quartet until her graduation in 1949.
After graduation she came to Cherokee County to serve as Home Economist for the county under the Georgia Agricultural Service for several years. She then took a position at Canton Elementary School to teach 7th and 8th grades in Home Economics as well as Civics. She retired from the Cherokee County School System after 32 years when she and husband, Randall, became owners of Cherokee Cleaners in downtown Canton.
Jeanette was an active member of the First Methodist Church of Canton serving in many positions within the church most especially enjoying being a member of the church choir. She enjoyed being a member and past President of the Trayletaah Garden Club, a volunteer for the auxiliary of Northside Hospital Cherokee and a member of the Cherokee County Service League. After coming to Canton in 1949, she met Charles Randall Bagwell and married in 1950 which lasted 66 years until his passing. They had two sons, Charles Gregory (Greg) and Robert Randall (Bob). Other surviving family members are Greg's sons, Charles and Joseph and Bob's three children, Robert R. (Rand), Megan B. Harmon and Elizabeth B. Burnette as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are welcome for visitation at Darby Funeral Home on Saturday November 30 from 2-6 PM. Her celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at 2PM. Interment will follow the church service at Cherokee Memorial Park in Canton Georgia. In lieu of flowers contributions to the Canton First Methodist Church, Murphy Harpst Children's Center 740 Fletcher St., Cedartown, GA 30125 or any charity of choice.
