Jennifer Lynn Norton, 62 of Canton, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Rosedale Personal Care Home in Marietta.
Jennifer was born just two days after Christmas on December 27, 1960, to Billy and Marilyn Anderson Tatum. She never let anyone know that she always got cheated out of birthday presents, though her mother said Jenny was the best late Christmas present she ever got.
She lived in Cherokee County all her days, at one time or another in the Sixes, Ball Ground, or Holly Springs communities, attending Ball Ground and Holly Springs Elementary Schools. Jenny graduated from Cherokee High in 1978 where she served as a senior class officer and was voted "Most Imaginative" by her peers.
Following graduation, Jenny trained as an Emergency Medical Technician, working for Cherokee County though the 1980's and 1990's both on an ambulance and in communications. It was an interesting and dynamic time as the field had just shifted from a funeral home sideline business to a county run department.
She married Tim Norton in 1990 and moved into the same little house where they would live and raise a son for the next 33 years, except fora few short spells in a personal care home. She loved and protected her family fiercely. She was a member of Sixes United Methodist Church.
Her health gradually declined over the past decade as several different issues took an ever-increasing toll. She died on October 22, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her mother. Survivors include her father, Billy Tatum; her husband, Tim Norton; her son, Paul Norton; brother, Joe Tatum; and sister Kristen Tatum. Aunts and Uncles also survive.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Elizabeth and Apollo Ndongi for the enormous amount of care and assistance they provided, especially near the end.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 24th from 12-8pm and Wednesday, October 25th from 11am to 2pm at Darby Funeral Home. The funeral is Wednesday, October 25th at 2pm in the chapel of Darby Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip McPherson officiating. Interment will follow at Sixes UMC Cemetery.
The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the Norton family.
