JoAnne Williams Pinyan, age 86 of Canton, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022 at The Retreat at Canton where she had resided for four years, with her daughters holding her hands.
Mrs. Pinyan was born in Haralson County on July 24, 1935, the 3rd daughter of the late Harold Williams and Mazelle Bearden Williams.
She was married to Raymond Pinyan for 63 years. They were longtime residents of Hickory Flat & Canton. Mr. Pinyan preceded her in death in 2018. She was a graduate of O'Keefe High School in Atlanta and was an active member of the alumni association. While living in the Hickory Flat Community, she was a substitute teacher at Hickory Flat Elementary and a Sunday School teacher as a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. Once her daughters were in high school, she and her husband built a home in the Oakdale Community in Canton where they resided for 46 years. She worked for the Georgia State Patrol as a Radio Operator for several years. After moving to Canton, Mrs. Pinyan became a member of Canton First United Methodist Church where she & her husband were active members for many years. They were also well known for being actively involved with their grandsons.
In addition to her parents & husband, she was also preceded in death by sisters, Jean Cloud & Jackie Marshall. She is survived by her daughters, Pam Thompson (Timmy) of Canton and Paula Pinyan of Marietta; grandsons Captain Christopher Raymond House USMC (Kelsey) of Beaufort, SC and Zachary (Zack) Robert Thompson of Canton plus many cousins, nieces & nephews.
Family members will receive friends at Darby Funeral Home on Sunday, June 12 from 2:00 to 4:00PM. The service & interment will be held at Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton on Monday, June 13 at 11:00AM. Attendees, please meet at the main building upon entering the cemetery. The service will be officiated by her grandson, Christopher House.
