John Timothy Meinecke's Obituary

John Meinecke, a devoted educator, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 30th at the age of 83.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, John was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Verna Meinecke; his brothers, Richard and William; and his first wife, Helen. After meeting Helen in college, they married and moved to Appleton, WI, where John began his career in education as a history teacher—a role that reflected his deep love of learning and passion for shaping young minds.

In search of a sunnier climate, John and Helen later relocated to Central Florida, where he joined Orange County Public Schools. Recognized for his leadership and vision, he was invited to help guide the district's transition from junior high to middle school education. He went on to serve as founding principal of Southwest Middle School and later Chain of Lakes Middle School. He led with integrity, high standards, and a quick wit—earning the respect and affection of students, faculty, and the wider community.

Music played a special role in John and Helen's life together. Helen led the choir at their church, and John sang alongside her. Many of their dearest, lifelong friendships were formed through that choir, with rehearsals filled with laughter and joyful singing. Together with their fellow choir members, they shared unforgettable travels, including trips to Rome and Ireland—making cherished memories along the way.

Following the passing of his wife Helen, John was blessed to find love again and married Diana, a longtime colleague, friend and fellow educator. Together, they shared 17 wonderful years of marriage, spending their retirement joyfully singing in the church choir, volunteering in local schools, and supporting youth at a nearby Boys Ranch. They also traveled and saw several parts of the world together including Alaska, France and did several River Cruises. They both especially cherished time with their grandchildren, taking great joy in being part of their lives.

John is survived by his loving wife, Diana; his daughters Lisa Weis (James), Jennifer Mascheri (Don), and Amy Gomez (Michael); and his eight grandchildren—Marissa, Jacob, Kayla, Ian, Kaitlin, Julian, Gage, and Cruz.
