Margaret Evelyn Tippens Dobson, 93, of Canton, Georgia, passed away Friday morning, January 20, 2017 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Margaret was a member of Sardis Baptist Church in Canton, Georgia. She was an elementary school teacher in the Cherokee County School System for 36 years. She enjoyed quilting, cooking and other crafts. Margaret was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. For many years she was devoted to visiting the elderly and infirmed, often taking food as well. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, J. L. Dobson, her parents Charles Monroe Tippens and Mamie Cleo Cagle Tippens; her twin sister, Marjorie Bobo, twin-sisters, Annie D Childers and Willie B Lipscomb, sister Ruth Siniard; and brother, Leroy Tippens. Margaret is survived by her children, Jerome (Gwen), Jeffrey (Dana) and Kenneth (Cati); eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; sister, Betty Rose Forrester; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 to 1 p.m. on Sunday at Darby Funeral Home, 480 East Main St, Canton, Georgia. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Morris officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charles Monroe and Mamie Cleo Tippens Scholarship Fund, Reinhardt University, 7300 Reinhardt College Circle, Waleska, GA 30183.
