Ruby Inez Grethen's Obituary

Ruby Inez Cooper Grethen was born April 6, 1934 in Bratt, Florida and passed away on June 3, 2023 in Canton, Georgia.
Ruby is preceded in death by her husband Pierre A. Grethen; parents, Bertie and Finis Cooper; and brother Willard N. Cooper. She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Grethen Adams (Steve) and Gina Grethen Howell (Jeff); her grandchildren, Todd O. Adams, Kylie G. Howell, Katie E. Kuhn (Eric), and Jason C. Howell (Beth); great grandchildren John-Paul Kuhn and Sylvie Renee Kuhn; and sisters Katie E. Laird and Linda F. Parks; as well as many other family and friends.
Ruby met Pierre in 1952 in Montgomery, Alabama where he was stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base. After a brief courtship they were married in December of 1952 and soon moved to Mobile, Alabama where they made their lifelong home and enjoyed 70 wonderful years of marriage.
While living in Mobile, Ruby was involved with her daughters at the elementary school level and was active in the PTA and substitute teaching. She was an avid bowler and was a member of the Gay 90s bowling league. Ruby also served as a sponsor and mother for her daughters' sorority. She became a role model and mother figure for the young ladies of the sorority and was well loved by all. She was a lifelong member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church where she served as an acolyte, lector, lay minister of communion, and member of the Alter Guild. She also did volunteer work in the church office assisting the priest and secretary in their duties.
Ruby was well loved by family and friends. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and was always ready to prepare a delicious meal for family gatherings. She was generous in giving of her time to others and will be missed by all.
A Celebration of Life Service to honor Ruby will be held in Mobile, Alabama at a date to be announced later.
