Sheila Mae Walker, better known as Memaw, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, on Monday, December 7, 2020. She was 76 years old.
Ms. Walker was born on February 3, 1944, in Maui, Hawaii. She spent most of her life in Albany, GA where she proudly helped take care of her nine brothers and sisters. After many years in the business community as a hotel general manager for the Ramada Inn, Ms. Walker retired from the Lee County School System in 2015. After retirement she relocated to Canton, GA to be closer to her grandchildren.
Memaw was happiest out in the tomato fields or in the kitchen putting up peas and butter beans. She was a giver at heart and always had her pantry stocked and freezer overfilled. You never left her house without a jar of peanut butter or a roll of paper towels.
Sheila is survived by her daughters, Angela (Alan) Hester of Canton, and Christy Isbell of Shelby, AL. Her siblings Kathy (Steve) Ligget of Leesburg, Jenny Lynn Ford of Doerun, and John Patrick Couch of Canton. Sheila proudly had eight grandchildren, Candence (Josh) Lowe, Chad Hester, Donaven Knights, Keaton (Haley) Wood, Kinady Wood, Kerrigan Wood, Dayli Wood, and Layni Isbell. And six great-grandchildren, Finley, Piper, Emmy and Molly Lowe, Wyatt Knights, and Bailey Wood.
The family will receive friends at Darby Funeral Home on Saturday, December 12th from 1-2 pm. A memorial service will follow the visitation in the chapel of Darby Funeral Home at 2 pm with family member, James Youngblood, officiating.
