Thomas G Pappas Sr 99 years old went home to be with the Lord on April 13, 2021.

He was born February 16, 1922 in Monessen, PA. the oldest son of Gregory and Augustina Pappas.

In his early years he grew up in Follansbee, WV where he graduated High School in 1940.

He graduated from Tennessee Tech where he earned his Chemical Engineering degree.

After Graduation he served our nation in the US Army where he spent the next 6 weeks at basic training and then was shipped to Germany as a Photo lithographer at the Battle of the Bulge. While in the Army he received several Medals and Ribbons and left with an Honorable Discharge.

When the war ended, he returned to Follansbee where he worked in the Wheeling Steel Mill.

In March 1948 he married the love of his life Lillian Papas and the marriage lasted over 70 years until she passed in 2018. Soon after they got married, they moved to Oak Ridge TN where he spent the next 35 years working for Union Carbide as a Chemical Engineer.

His greatest accomplishments and brought him the most happiness was raising his 5 children Sophia Brown (Dan) Blairsville, GA, Tina Vamvakias (Plutarch) Canton, GA, Greg Pappas (Mary) Canton, GA William Pappas (Maria)Jacksonville Beach, FL and Thomas G Pappas JR Nashville, TN. They have 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren along with numerous nephews and nieces.

He was an active Bowler and Golfer. Played golf up to the age of 92 and had 3 holes-in-one in his lifetime. For over 30 years he ushered at the University of Tennessee sport events Football and Basketball. He was an active gardener his whole life and there was not a day that went by during growing season that the family didn't have fresh vegetables to eat,

He worked 20+ years as a volunteer at the Park West Hospital. Tom was an active member of the St George Greek Orthodox Church in Knoxville TN. and Saints Raphael, Nicholas, and Irene Greek Orthodox Church in Cumming GA.

Services are scheduled for Friday, April 23rd Visitation 10:30 AM and Funeral Services at 12pm at Saints Raphael, Nicholas, and Irene Greek Orthodox Church in Cumming. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 5th at 2:30pm at Georgia National Cemetery.
