Major Vincent August Knapp age 48 of Canton, GA passed away at his home June 3, 2021. The family will receive friends at Darby Funeral Home on Monday, June 21st from 3-8pm. The funeral will be on Tuesday, June 22nd at 11am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with Lt. Colonel David Bethel officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery at 2pm with military honors.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Blaine Knapp and Kay Irene Consla.
Mr. Knapp is survived by his wife; Susan Knapp, Canton, GA, his stepmother is Mary Knapp, Battle Creek MI., stepsons; Andrew Ross, Cleveland, OH, Christian Ross, Canton, GA, step daughter; Katherine Ross, Willoughby, OH, brothers; Walter (Deborah) Knapp, Meadville, PA, Christopher (Kathleen) Knapp, Meadville, PA, David Knapp, Corry, PA, Jay (Julie) Knapp, MI, Brad (Nadine) Knapp, IN, Blaine (Amanda) Knapp, MI, Andrew Knapp, MI, Liam Autum) Knapp, MI, sisters; Kathryn Franklin, Battle Creek, MI, Elizabeth Chandler, Meadville, PA, 2 step grandchildren; Chase Rein, Easton Ross.
Vincent attended St. Phillip Catholic Central High in Battle Creek, MI and was a graduate of Meadville Area Senior High class of 1991. He received his bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, MI. Later he obtained his MBA from Webster University, St. Louis, MO through the Marine Corps.
Through his youth he was an accomplished wrestler. He was a three-time High School state representative in Michigan and Pennsylvania. He was a Michigan first place finisher and was a Jr. World Greco Roman team member. He was also a Central Michigan team member while attending that University.
Major Vincent Knapp served courageously in the United States Marine Corps with several combat deployments to include participating in operations in Kuwait, and in the Global War on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. While leading his warriors on multiple fronts he exemplified the true values of the Marine Corps. During his Marine Corps career, he received many unit and personal awards to include; the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2) with Combat V Distinguishing Device, the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal the Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon. While highly decorated his most prized memories, and that which he was most proud, were of his men and getting them home safely. Semper Fidelis Marine…you are loved and missed by your Marines.
He was employeed at Schindler Elevator in Smyrna, GA.
