Obituary – W.J. Holtzclaw, Jr.
Willie Jasper Holtzclaw, Jr., age 95 of the Avery Community, passed away Monday, August 3, 2020. Born in Canton on July 9, 1925, "Junior" as he was known to his family and friends, lived his entire life in Cherokee County. Retired from Lockheed Aircraft following a 30+ year career, he enjoyed spending time with family, traveling and riding motorcycles. Junior was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church since age 13. He was a man who never met a stranger, bought & sold many tractors, and was a craftsman and jack of all trades. He was also a proud Shriner and member of the Hickory Flat Masonic Lodge for over 65 years.
Predeceased by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 74 years, Louise Harbin Holtzclaw, he was also preceded in death by his parents, Willie Jasper and Chlora Mae Haley Holtzclaw, son Olin Holtzclaw, son-in-law Donald Carnes, brother and sister-in-law Leon and Bonnie Holtzclaw and brother-in-law Norman Butterworth.
Survivors include his daughter Carol Carnes, daughter-in-law Kathryn Holtzclaw, grandchildren Lynn (Jason) Brock, Brian (Pam) Carnes, Lance (Tonya) Carnes, Whitney Carnes, Shelley (Joey) Stewart and great-grandchildren Lauren Brock, Rebekah Carnes, Will and Owen Carnes, Sarah (Brody) Klett, Blake Sheldon, Levi, Walter and Jessip Stewart. Blessed with a large family, Junior is also survived by siblings Doris Butterworth, Sue (Franklin) Moore, Bobby (Sudy) Holtzclaw and Kenneth (Mary Ruth) Holtzclaw and sisters-in-law Ruth Ellison, Evelyn Harbin and Lanette Harbin as well as many nieces and nephews. The family is indebted to caregivers Kathy, Linda, Janet and Tammy.
A private family visitation is planned. A graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, August 6, in Macedonia Memorial Park where attendees are asked to wear masks and observe social distancing. Pallbearers will be Will and Owen Carnes, Brody Klett, Blake Sheldon and Levi, Walter, and Jessip Stewart. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lauren Brock and Rebekah Carnes.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Junior's memory to Cherokee County Special Olympics, 400 Arnold Mill Road, Woodstock, GA 30188.
