Mr. Lloyd Young Smith, Jr., age 82 of Jasper, GA passed away at Halcyon Hospice in Atlanta, GA Wednesday March 25, 2015. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM Sunday March 29, 2015 from the Chapel of Darby Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12:00PM until the service hour. Reverend Kasey Kuyper will officiate. Mr. Smith is survived by his son; Eric Smith, Jasper, GA, daughter; Glenda Smith, Atlanta, GA, granddaughter; Savannah Malone Smith, sister; Adarene Cagle, Pensacola, FL and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was the first principal for Chapman Elementary in Woodstock, GA, he was the principal at Ball Ground Elementary and Woodstock Elementary and coached basketball at those schools. He was the first Director at S.C.R.A., South Cherokee Recreation Association and helped start the Head Start Program in Cherokee County. He was also a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.
