Alexander Reimer Jr., age 79, of Canton, Georgia passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014.
Alexander "Al" Reimer was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Alexander & Alice Reimer. He was the eldest of seven children. He is survived by brothers and sisters: David Reimer, Lincolnton, NC, Robert Reimer, North Babylon, NY, Elizabeth Kirk, Farmingdale, NY, Florence Benton, Huntington Beach, CA. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Grace Reimer and siblings: Ruth Merkel and James Reimer.
Al served in the U.S. Navy 1952-1956, reaching the rank of Machinist's Mate First Class and serving on the USS Hornet CVA-12 and USS Oriskany CVA-34. In 1963 he started a long career in fiberglass engineering and manufacturing, working for Koppers, Fiberglass Resources, Perma-Pipe, and Able Manufacturing & Assembly. Al resided in Bristol, TN from 1969-1985, traveling regionally and abroad to scope project sites including Algeria & Indonesia. He retired from the industry after 30 years. Post-retirement he worked for Dillons and Kroger until 2005.
Al was an active member of the Episcopal Church for his adult life, serving on the vestries of St Columba's in Bristol and St Clement's in Canton. He also participated in Bible studies and men's group at St Clement's. Through church activities, he met and fell in love with Irene Ramers. She brought joy back into his life and they married in 2007.
He will be missed by his wife: Irene Reimer, Canton, GA, and her children Lee & Richard Staten, Woodstock, GA, and grandchildren: Hannah Staten and Emma Staten. Al is survived by his children: Keith & Lucia Reimer, Norfolk, VA, Gayle & Robert Aguirre, Roswell, GA; grandchildren: Francesca Reimer, Amanda Lawrence, Jordan Lawrence, Joseph Aguirre, and great-grandson, Nathan Lawrence.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00PM Saturday, April 19, 2014 at St. Clement's Episcopal Church with the Rev. James B. Stutler officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the parish hall. Committal Service will be held 2:00PM Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton.
