Jennifer Mathis Labant
May 9, 1972 – June 15, 2025
Jennifer Mathis Labant, 53, of Canton, GA, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, with the
same quiet strength and grace she carried throughout her life.
Born in Cape May Court House, NJ, Jennifer moved to Augusta, GA, in 1981 and graduated
from Evans High School in 1990. She earned her degree from the University of Georgia in 1994,
where she was an active member of the Arch Society, the Redcoat Marching Band, Alpha
Gamma Delta, and other student organizations. In 1997, she married her college sweetheart,
Michael Labant.
Jennifer built a dynamic career in communications, holding roles at The Coca-Cola Company,
Turner Broadcasting, and Agnes Scott College. A gifted writer and sharp editor, she also worked
as a freelancer and volunteered with the Salvation Army during the holidays.
A devoted Georgia Bulldogs fan, Jennifer especially loved football season. One of her favorite
memories was attending the UGA Football Awards Banquet and sharing a long conversation
with Coach Mark Richt and his wife, Catherine.
Jennifer also had a passion for tennis. She captained her neighborhood team and found deep
friendship and community on the court. She was a proud godmother and a loving dog mom to
Charlie, Keylee, and Ruby.
In 2012, Jennifer was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She faced it with resilience, never
letting the disease define her. Her warmth, grace, and ability to rejoice in others' joy remained
constant. Her faith in Jesus Christ was her foundation, giving her peace and purpose.
She is survived by her loving husband, Michael Labant; her mother and stepfather, Beth and Bill
Murphy of Martinez, GA; her sister and brother-in-law, Alisa and Chris Wisner of Graniteville,
SC; her in-laws, William (Bill) and Patricia Labant of Jacksonville, AL; her sister-in-law, Diemara
Labant; her niece, Sophie Bivins; her nephew, Ethan Bivens; and cherished goddaughters Lizzy
Tucker (Brendan), Julianna Turner, and Brooklyn Turner. She was preceded in death by her
father, Ronald P. Mathis.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 26, from 4–7 PM at Darby Funeral Home, Canton, GA. A
funeral mass will be held Friday, June 27, at 1 PM at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Marietta,
GA, with reception to follow. Graveside service: Saturday, June 28, 1 PM, Hillcrest Memorial
Park, Augusta, GA.
