Margaret "Margie" West Morris, 78, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in Sandy Springs, GA.
Margie was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Howard West and grew up in Canton, GA. During her childhood, she attended Cherokee County Schools and was a member of the local 4H Club. She attended Reinhardt College and graduated from University of Tennessee at Martin. After college, Margie moved to Atlanta, GA, where she taught 6th grade at Guy Webb Elementary School. She soon met the love of her life and husband, Bill Morris, while shoveling sawdust with the Atlanta Ski Club. The couple settled down in South Georgia, where they lived and raised their daughter for over 20 years. Bill's work in the peanut industry eventually brought Margie home to North Georgia where they lived as a family in Canton, GA. In retirement, Margie and Bill settled in Big Canoe and spent several years enjoying the scenic mountain life. After Bill passed, Margie moved to Sandy Springs to live with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson.
Margie was known for her creativity and artistry across many hobbies including antiquing, gardening, flower arranging, and interior decorating. Earlier in her life, she was also an avid tennis player and loved the community that the court fostered. She was ever the consummate hostess, and loved having friends over for luncheons or evening "tini" time with a well-shaken martini. Margie built close friendships wherever she lived and is remembered for the shopping adventures and fits of giggles that always ensued.
Her greatest love of all was her family, whom she loved deeply. She took such pride in being a wife and mother, but absolutely treasured being "Gammy" to her grandson, Luke. Margie is survived by her daughter, Mackenzie Morris Housman; son-in-law, Ryan Housman; and grandson, Luke Housman, of Sandy Springs, GA. She is also survived by her sister, Brenda Satterfield (Joe) and her brother, Bill West (Becky) of Canton, GA. She is preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, William Edward Morris; her father, Howard William West; and her mother, Mildred Lathem West.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 20 from 2:00-5:00pm at Darby Funeral Home in Canton, GA. Services will be at Canton First Methodist Church's Mcfather Chapel on Monday, July 21 at 11:30am followed by the interment at Georgia National Cemetery.
