Roger J. Aschmeyer's Obituary

Roger J. Aschmeyer passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2016 in Canton, Georgia. He was born in 1929 to Arthur and Anna (Wilms) Aschmeyer in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Rhodes High School in the "Old Brooklyn" neighborhood of Cleveland in 1947 and with and from Purdue University in 1951 with a degree in civil engineering. After college he joined the US Army and served as a Lieutenant through 1955 with time in Korea.

Roger was employed as a professional engineer for most of his post military career, working on transit projects in the Midwest and along the East coast. He was well respected by his work colleagues and viewed as a man with high standards for honesty and integrity. He enjoyed his long retirement years in the North Georgia Mountains with his wife, Cally, building a home and life around the Ellijay and finally in the Canton community. Roger and Cally enjoyed many days of blue skies while tending to their many projects while be accompanied by their trusty mountain dog, Foxy.

Roger is survived by his wife Carolyn (Cally) Stubbs Aschmeyer; daughter Susan (Jeff) ,Rogers sons James (Kellye) Aschmeyer and Thomas (Kimberley) Aschmeyer all of Atlanta; sister Arlene Aschmeyer of California and grandchildren Tyler, Lauren, Maggie, Kyle, Zachary, Mitchell and Katie all of Atlanta and Cally's sons Richard and Kyle Paula of Florida and granddaughter Rachel Romano of New York.

Burial with military funeral honors will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia. 10:30 AM Thursday February 25, 2016. Those wishing to be part of funeral procession please assemble at Darby Funeral Home at 9:15 AM Thursday.

Following the burial there will be a gathering of friends and Family at the Downtown Kitchen from 11:30-2PM

Memorial donations can be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
