Samuel Pitts “PaPa” August 14, 1944 – April 11, 2024 Samuel Pitts “PaPa”, 79 of Canton, GA., passed away to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, April 11, 2024. Visitation will be Saturday, April 20th from 12-2pm at Darby Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2pm at Zion Baptist Church with Rev. C.D. Morgan and Rev. Fred Forsch officiating. Interment will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Quan Hooks, Fransisco Rivera, Russell Vines, Willie Threat, Joey Holcombe, and Roy Elcohis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Edward McMickens, Eddie Washington, Joe Williams, and James Crews. Flowers Girls will be Debbie Jackson, Ernestine Tanner, Cashanda Rogers, Tanish Welch, Tiffany Foster, Jodi Hamm and Sheila Gregory. Mr. Pitts is preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Marjorie Pitts; His Brother Eddie L. Pitts; His Son Samuel Pitts, Jr. Mr. Pitts is survived by His wife Mary Alice Pitts; Sisters Antoinette (Walter) Thomas, Canton GA; Beverly Quinn, Woodstock GA; Sister in Law Patricia Pitts, Woodstock GA; Daughter Kimberly (Rod) Lane, NJ; Sons Kristopher (Shana) Pitts, GA; Craig Pitts, GA; Courtney Pitts, GA; His 11 Grand-Babies: Kenyatta (Quan) Hooks, Ryan Respress, Corrin Pitts, Alston Pitts, Mieren Pitts, Justice Pitts, Niels Lane, Maliyah Pitts, Takyah Gilmore, Kristie Smith and Aaliyah Pitts; Along with 13 Great Grand-Babies: Ariyanna Hooks, Alayna Hooks, Jayden Repress, Jaxxon Fowler, Peyton Repress, Ezekiel Pitts, Nico Pitts, Adalynn Hooks, Elliyanah Pitts, Jacari Ladd, Normani Ladd, Anthony Jackson and Antoine Washington; Nieces Monica (Ernest) Carson; Treena Pitts; Nephew: Scott Pitts Mr. Pitts was born in Tate, GA. He graduated from Ralph Bunche School in 1963, where he played basketball. Mr. Pitts loved working with his father hauling lumber as a young boy. Mr. Pitts started working at Lockheed Martin at the age of 16 and retired after 41 years of service. While there he worked on the F-22 Raptor. If asked, he would say he built the airplane himself. He also loved working on Cars as a hobby and owned any tool you can think of! Mr. Pitts was a Deacon at Zion Baptist Church where he served his Lord faithfully. Mr. Pitts made sure everyone he came in contact with knew about Jesus; He was honored to have led many souls to Christ. He loved to hang out at the local gas station, Sammy never met a stranger, he would smile and speak to everyone who crossed his path. He was very selfless; always giving a helping hand to anyone in need. Mr. Pitts was one of the four men selected to integrate the Canton Theatre in 1964 during Freedom Summer. He showed bravery and perseverance while he fought for racial equality in Cherokee County GA. He was a pillar and well-respected man in the community. Mr. Pitts owned a local hole in the wall called the Casadena where many memories were made. Papa’s pride and joy was spending time with his Grand-Babies. His world revolved around them! Samuel was full of wisdom, he was fierce, and stood firm in what he believed in. He was quick to give advice which will stick with all of us for a lifetime. His smile and laugh were infectious! The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the Pitts family.
