Sara Wilma Lathem Carnes Burruss, of the Macedonia Community, was born July 26, 1928, and passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2020.
A member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Cumming, Wilma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and caring for her family.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert Burruss, as well as sons Doug (Patty) Carnes and Jackie (Pat) Carnes, daughter Robin (Mitch) Mitchell, and daughter-in-law Carol Carnes. Additional survivors include ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Lane and Nellie Walton, brothers-in-law Larry Glass and John Lummus along with several nieces and nephews. The family is indebted to special caregivers Ruth Porter and Lisa Thompson.
Wilma was preceded in death by her son Donald Carnes, grandson Jeff Carnes, and parents Grady and Pearl Lathem, brothers Roy, Alton and Olin Lathem, sisters Rilla Evans, Bonnie Lathem, Mildred West, and Sybil Lathem.
Considering the health of family and friends, no visitation is planned. A private family graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 14 at 2 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Services and be viewed at Darby Funeral Home Facebook Page, or Darby Funeral Home.Com
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Wilma's memory to Cherokee County Special Olympics, 400 Arnold Mill Road, Woodstock, GA 30188. Caring Staff of Darby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
