Mrs. Betty J. Childers
January 10, 1934 - February 11, 2022
Betty Jean Childers January 10, 1934 – February 11, 2022 Betty Jean Childers passed away peacefully on February 11, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Betty was born in Ball Ground, Georgia to Ella and Shelvy Cornett. She spent most of her life in Holly Springs, Georgia before moving to Smyrna and later Sandy Springs to be closer to her family. Betty was a bookkeeper by profession until she retired to become a full-time wife, mother and grandmother. After raising two daughters, Betty became a loving “Nana” to five grandsons. Having had only a sister and daughters, active little boys were new to her. She embraced the role, turning over her family room to train sets, making pirate costumes and superhero capes, and spending countless hours at baseball fields and basketball gyms watching her grandsons play. After welcoming her first great-grandson, she thrilled to add two great-granddaughters to her family. Betty was a faithful member of Holly Springs United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir and volunteering with her church circle. Although Betty loved to stay close to home working on sewing and craft projects and baking everyone’s favorite dessert when they visited, she happily accompanied her husband Bud as he reached his goal of visiting all 50 states after retirement. She also enjoyed visiting her daughters’ families often as they lived in various parts of the country. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, W.D. “Bud” Childers; her daughters, Lisa Thomas (Mark) and Patti Muenchen (John); five grandsons, Jarrod Thomas (Cherise), Britton Thomas (Alexandra), Cameron Thomas, Nicholas Muenchen and Max Muenchen; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lucy and Clara. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Doris Cornett. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the chapel at Darby Funeral Home, 480 E. Main Street, Canton, Georgia. The family will receive friends before the service from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and a commitment service will be held at Cherokee Memorial Park, 120 Memorial Drive, Canton, Georgia. In consideration of current health concerns, a reception will not be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund. https://vimeo.com/event/1835479
