Julie Weeks Miles passed away suddenly on June 20, 2023, at the age of 44. Julie was born in Decatur, Georgia and later moved to Conyers where she graduated from Salem High School and went on to receive her undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a Master's Degree in Education of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing from the University of Georgia. Julie was a lifelong learner, always seeking to expand her knowledge and improve her teaching skills. She recently completed her Specialist in Education from Valdosta State University in addition to holding national certifications. Julie was a dedicated and passionate special education teacher. She began her teaching career at the Atlanta Speech School's Katherine Hamm Center where she taught students who were deaf or hard of hearing to develop listening and language skills for thirteen years. For the past six years, Julie was a special education teacher at Ball Ground Elementary School STEM Academy. Her kindness and patience created a safe and nurturing learning environment where her students thrived. She was always willing to go the extra mile to help her students succeed, and her commitment to education was unwavering. Her exceptional work was recognized when she was awarded Teacher of the Year for the 2021-2022 school year at Ball Ground Elementary School STEM Academy.
Perhaps what defined Julie most was her ability to make friends with anyone she met. Her infectious smile and kind heart drew people to her, and she had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. Her friendships were deep and meaningful, and she cherished each and every one of them.
Julie had a strong love for all animals but a special place in her heart for her rescue dog, Chili. During the summer, Julie loved to travel with her husband and daughter. They would often visit David's family in England where they would travel to Holywell Bay in Cornwall. This became her favorite travel location. Julie was a devoted mother to her 12-year-old daughter Stella, who was the light of her life. She instilled in her daughter a love of learning, a passion for animals and travel, and the importance of kindness and friendship. Her legacy will live on through her daughter and the countless lives she touched throughout her life.
Julie is survived by her husband of 14 years, David Miles; daughter Stella; parents Dennis and Ginger Bracewell Weeks; sister Lisa (Pete) LeMoine; nieces Madeline and Sydney LeMoine; grandmother Lillian Bracewell; mother-in-law Jackie (Derek) Hinton; father-in-law Mike (Anna) Miles; brothers-in-law Keith (Shelly) Miles and Nathan Miles. Julie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Fred R. Bracewell and Eleanor and Oscar Weeks; uncle, Jimmie Bracewell; and aunt, Dianne Weeks Lawson.
Julie had a profound impact on the lives of those around her and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A private memorial service will be held, with a public celebration of Julie's life to be announced in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, an education fund for Stella can be accessed at
