    Maxwell Gerald Oldt

    September 1, 1945 - January 18, 2022

Maxwell “Max” Gerald Oldt, 76, of Canton, Georgia passed away peacefully on January 18, 2022. Max was born on September 1, 1945, to his beloved parents Frank Maxwell and Rosa-Lee Oldt in Newcomerstown, Ohio. After graduating from Newcomerstown High School in 1963, Max joined the United States Air Force serving as a Sergeant until 1968. From there, Max began his career as a technician with AT&T Telecommunications which guided his journey to Canton, Georgia where he eventually retired. In 2001, Max met the love of his life, Sylvia Oldt, in a place very near to his heart, Canton First United Methodist Church. The two were married on July 29, 2006 and created a life together that was divinely blessed and founded on Christ. Max was a simple and compassionate man who genuinely loved and deeply cared for the people around him, especially his family. His hearty laugh, kind smile, and sweet spirit filled any room that he entered. Max’s love for the Lord was evident in every aspect of his life, and his humble words of wisdom and encouragement were always welcomed by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Max enjoyed traveling, reading, spending time outside and with his family and friends, working hard with his hands, cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes, and faithfully attending and serving as a member of Canton First United Methodist Church for many years. He was also involved with the Masonic Lodge in Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Maxwell Oldt and Rosa-Lee Oldt, niece, Marjorie Hart, and great niece, Catherine Grace Schaffer. Max is survived by his precious wife, Sylvia Oldt, sons Doug (Rhonda) McLeod of Dublin, GA and Marty (Katherine) McLeod of Pelham, GA, daughter Stacy (Gary) Mills of Gray, GA, brothers Terry Oldt of Canton, GA and Frank (Jean, late) of Newcomerstown, Ohio, sisters Naundice (Alan) Hart of Newcomerstown, Ohio and Mary Rose (Jim) Meechan of Gahanna, Ohio as well as five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of treasured nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Canton First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Georgia National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Colby Mills, Brian Oldt, Matt Schaffer, Stan Hathcock, Bob Pociask, and Larry Haygood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s and Youth Ministries of Canton First United Methodist Church or to the Children’s, Youth, and College Ministries of your local church home. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed here: https://cantonumc.online.church/ The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the Oldt family.
