Barbara A. L. Adams
March 12, 1940 – June 15, 2025
Barbara A. L. Adams, 85, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025. Born in Gilmer County, Georgia, to Margaret Arvilla Smith Harbin and John S. Harbin, Barbara grew up with a deep love for the North Georgia mountains and the simple joys they offered.
Barbara's sense of adventure often led her over the state line to Cherokee, North Carolina, where she and her beloved sister, Johnnie Carson, relished playing the slot machines together. When she wasn't on the road, you could find her curled up with a good book, jotting down a favorite poem, or creating something beautiful with her crochet hook. She was quick to share her crafts—and her signature sweet tooth.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Barbara found her greatest happiness in time spent outdoors with her grandchildren, browsing shops for the perfect little treasure, and filling her home with warmth and laughter. Those who knew her best will remember her unfailing loyalty, her ready smile, and the sparkle in her eye whenever dessert was mentioned.
Barbara is survived by her son, Christopher A. Adams (Kim) of Canton, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Lindsey McGovern (Nick), Lauren Brookshire, Eric Adams, Keith Adams, Bonnie Deininger (Matthew), Drew Adams, and Olivia Adams; and five great grandchildren, Maddox McGovern, Bennett McGovern, Cadence Deininger, Levi Deininger, and August Deininger.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gary Adams; her son, John Bret Adams; her daughter, Kelly McBride; her brother, Jack S. Harbin; and her sister, Johnnie Carson.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in the Chapel of Darby Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Macedonia Memorial Park in the Macedonia community.
Barbara's family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating a life well lived and a heart well loved.
