Obituary

Barbara Jean Dwyer, 87, currently residing in Canton, Georgia, passed away on February 15, 2025. Barb was born March 13, 1937, to Hilda Miller Nahar in Charleroi, Pennsylvania.

Barb and Joe were married in 1958 in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, and moved to Avon Lake, Ohio, in 1962. Barb was a stay-at-home mom for many years and worked at Fisher's Big Wheel in Avon Lake prior to earning her bachelor's degree in education at Bowling Green State University. Barb taught in the Keystone and Wellington School Districts during her career as an educator. Barb was a 3rd Grade teacher for many years in her career and she always said she loved her time at Westwood Elementary School. After retirement, Barbara kept busy traveling, playing in multiple bridge groups, going to the theater with friends, and spending time with family.

Barb was an avid bridge player and was a member of several different bridge groups for over 40 years. Barb enjoyed life-long friendships with many people she met through working at Fisher's Big Wheel, Wellington City Schools, and her bridge groups. Barb was a resident of Avon Lake, Ohio, for 58 years and was a season ticket holder for Avon Lake High School football games for many of those years. No matter the weather, she could be found in the bleachers during football season. For many years, Barb enjoyed going to the Y to exercise and walking with friends in the evenings. Barb was a huge nature lover, and she fed any critters that would wander into her yard on Curtis Drive. Deer were favorite guests, and Barb would travel to Wellington to get bird feed and corn. In addition to wildlife, Barb always had pets. Cats were her favorite and she adored her Maine Coon cats. Barb was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Avon Lake, Ohio.

Barb's children and grandchildren will miss her dearly but are grateful for the long life she lived, and all the special times enjoyed together whether they were grand trips or simple moments. Barb was a wonderful wife, mom, and G-ma.
