Betty Ann Brandt, 83 of Canton, GA, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family
Wednesday June 12, 2024, at Woodstock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in
Woodstock, GA. Private services to be determined at a later date.
Betty, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Carl and Edna Gillespie, was born on February 15,
1941 in Franklin, NC. After living in Dillard, GA for the first 7 years of her life, Betty's
family relocated to Lorain, Ohio for her father's work in the automobile industry. She
graduated Lorain High School in 1958 and later completed her degree in education.
Betty was a school teacher for 30 years at Lorain County Schools. She married her high
school sweetheart Jack Brandt on November 21, 1959. They lived for several years in
Vermillion, Ohio during which they were members of the Vermillion Boat Club and were
Commodore and First Lady in 1988. Betty was very involved with the Vermillion Boat
Club and enjoyed timing races and taking sailing trips with her husband Jack. They
moved to Canton, Georgia in 2003 where she enjoyed spending time tutoring school
children, reading, and spending time with her family and beloved husband Jack. Betty
was very smart and excelled at everything she did. Betty is preceded in death by her
parents Carl and Edna Gillespie. She is survived by and will be dearly missed by her
husband Jack Brandt of 64 years of Canton, GA; daughter Brenda Brandt Showfety
and her husband Chip of Lavonia, GA; son David Brandt and his wife Karen of Geneva,
IL; grandchildren Lauren Hanzlick of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Allison Hanzlick of St.
Petersburg, FL; Chelsea Brandt of Geneva, IL; and Jack Brandt of Geneva, IL.
