Betty Rose Tippens Forrester's Obituary

Betty Rose Tippens Forrester of Canton, Georgia, peacefully passed away on November 7th, 2021, at Northside Hospital Cherokee after a brief illness. She was born in the Clayton community of Cherokee County, Georgia on October 26th, 1931, to the late Charles Monroe Tippens and Mamie Cleo Cagle Tippens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Glenn Forrester, Jr.

Betty graduated from Canton High School, Reinhardt College, and North Georgia College in Dahlonega with a Bachelor's degree in Education. She was an elementary school teacher in the Cherokee County School System for thirty-six years. She taught at numerous schools throughout the system, most notably Woodstock, North Canton Elementary (later renamed Tippens Elementary), and Buffington Elementary schools. She was teacher of the year at Buffington Elementary in 1979-1980.

Betty married the love of her life, "Buddy" Forrester, on June 10th of 1953. She was a devoted wife to Buddy for sixty-five years and took great pleasure in all of their family activities. Betty came from a large family and was the youngest of seven children. She maintained close contact with all of her siblings her entire life. The Tippens family get togethers were legendary in their breadth and scope. She was the last surviving Tippens of her generation.

Betty was known for her love of all children, especially her students. Many of her former students kept in close contact with her through the years. She clothed many children in the school neighborhoods who could not afford adequate clothing in the winter. She treated all other persons with kindness and respect. Betty was a devoted mother to her three sons and was always there for them in good times and bad. She also took a great interest in her grandchildren. She greatly enjoyed attending their numerous school and extracurricular activities, and she took them on many camping and Disney World excursions. She was a role model for all mothers who wish to be loved and respected by their families.

Betty is survived by her dear sons Brian (Marcheta) Forrester of Athens, GA., Barry (Juanita) Forrester of Jasper, GA., and Greg Forrester of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren Kelly Forrester of Atlanta, GA., Kyle Forrester (Stephanie) of Atlanta, GA., Annabelle Forrester (Grant Patrick) of Woodstock, GA, and Mary Forrester of Jasper, GA.

The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers, the entire staff at Cameron Hall Assisted Living, and special friend and caregiver Robin Brooks, all of whom made Betty's final years so pleasant.

Visitation will be held at Darby Funeral Home in Canton on Friday evening, November 12th, from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM, and on Saturday, November 13th from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, followed by funeral and interment at Sardis Baptist Church and Sardis Baptist Cemetery.
