Obituary

Betty Jo Taylor, age 80, of Canton, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Grace Senior Living in Woodstock, Georgia.

Betty Taylor was truly one of a kind! She was a woman who never met a stranger and made everyone she encountered feel like an old friend. She passed away leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and love that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

She was born on February 17, 1946, in Palatka, Florida, to the late John Wesley Farmer and Bessie Marie Farmer. Betty grew up in Ball Ground and Marietta, Georgia, and spent most of her life in Holly Springs, where she became a familiar and beloved part of the community.

Betty began her working years at Sears before finding her true calling as a mail carrier with the Woodstock Post Office. For many years, she faithfully served her route, forming special bonds with her customers, coworkers, and even the neighborhood dogs she greeted by name each day. To Betty, they were never just customers — they were family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Robert Taylor; her sons, Phillip Underwood and Steve Wood; her parents; and her brothers, Jimmy Farmer and Charles Farmer. Betty was married to Glen Taylor until his passing in 2012.

Betty is lovingly remembered by her children, Rhonda (Rick) Stocks of Marietta, Georgia, Jennifer (Josh) Harker of Gainesville, Georgia, and Wesley Beaver of Canton, Georgia; her daughter-in-law, Kelly Underwood; her cherished grandchildren, Emmie (Ben) Glass, Ricky Stocks Jr., Margaret Anne (Nick) Vowell, Reed Underwood, Camden Underwood, Eliot Underwood, Mabree Underwood, McKane Harker, Paxton Harker, and Sadie Jo Harker; and her great-grandchildren, Turner Glass, John Walker Glass, and Ellie Vowell.

She is also survived by her siblings, Johnny (Denora) Farmer of Reno, Nevada, David (Sue) Farmer of Manchester, New Hampshire, Bob (Teresa) Farmer of Kennesaw, Georgia, Doris Durden of Canton, Georgia, Joan Farmer of Houma, Louisiana and Jane (Tony) Monroe of Cartersville, Georgia.

Betty had a deep love for her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling with her friends, mountain biking, and making memories with the people she loved most. She loved her Canton Car Club she had been a member of since its inception. She also had a servant’s heart and proudly volunteered at voting polls during many elections, always wanting to give back to her community.

Above all, Betty loved her children fiercely and equally — although they still lovingly argue over who was truly her favorite. That was simply Betty: she had a way of making each person in her life feel uniquely special.

Betty’s warmth, humor, and generous spirit touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Darby Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour. A private interment will be held at Georgia National Cemetery at a later date.

The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Ms. Betty Jo Taylor.
