C. Raymond (Ray) Pinyan, age 83 of Canton, Georgia passed away March 8th at his residence surrounded by family. Mr. Pinyan was born in Atlanta on January 9, 1935 to the late Sam and Florine (Howell) Pinyan. He was a graduate of O'Keefe High School, Dekalb College and north Georgia College. He served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957 where he was stationed in Atsugi, Japan.
Mr. Pinyan was employed as a trooper with the Georgia State Patrol in 1960. He progressed through the ranks of the Georgia State Patrol, and also served as an Agent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation from 1971 to 1974. Mr. Pinyan retired from the Georgia State Patrol in 1990 as Commanding Officer after 30 years of service. During his career, he received numerous commendations from various Governors and U.S. Presidents.
Mr. Pinyan was a member of Canton First United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by sisters, Catherine Pinyan and Carolyn P Littlefield, and brother, Charles Pinyan. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, JoAnne (Williams) Pinyan, Canton; daughter, Pam (Timmy) Thompson, Canton; daughter, Paula Pinyan, Marietta; Grandson, 1st LT (USMC) Christopher Raymond House, Marietta; and grandson, Zachary (Zack) Robert Thompson, Canton.
Family members will receive friends at Darby Funeral Home on Monday, March 12 from 6:00-8:00 PM, and Tuesday, March 13 from 2:00-4:00 PM & 6:00-8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at Canton First United Methodist Church on March 14th at 12:30 PM. Burial will immediately follow at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, with military honors. Darby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
