Charles Clifford Summerour, 84, passed away on December 25, 2014, at the age of 84. He was born on June 1, 1929, the eighth of nine children, and grew up on a farm in unincorporated Cobb County.
A veteran of the United States Air Force and Georgia Air National Guard, he served for three years during the Korean War. He graduated from Georgia State University, then the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
After graduating from college, he worked as an accountant for Blue Plate Foods, then for other Atlanta-area companies before retiring from Super Valu Grocery in 1995.
In 1964, he married his wife, Nell, whom he met while singing together in the choir at the Baptist Tabernacle in downtown Atlanta. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage, singing together in the choir at the Tabernacle and later at Mount Paran Church of God. They loved traveling and took trips to places such as Alaska, Austria, England, Germany, and Israel.
A tenor with a beautiful voice, he also enjoyed singing in various choirs such as the Atlanta Symphony Chorus, the Tara Choral Guild and the Cherokee Chorale.
He is survived by his wife, Nell Kimes Wright Summerour, three sons and their wives, Mark and Ann Wright of Woodstock, Wayne and Heidi Wright of Smyrna, and Kenneth and Margie Summerour of Loganville, as well as two sisters, Pauline Johnson and Shirley Dobbins. His surviving grandchildren include Jessica Wright, Matt Wright, Julie Wright, Grace Wright, Robbie Summerour, Will Wright, Jeremy Summerour, Emma Wright, Katie Summerour, Jacob Wright, and great grandchildren are Nevaeh, Skylar, Ryan, and Caden.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Mount Paran Church, 2055 Mount Paran Road, Atlanta, on Saturday, January 10. Family members will receive guests at 2 p.m. and the service will be held at 3 p.m.
