Connie, age 74, passed away peacefully at her residence in Canton GA on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Connie was born in Canton, Georgia, to the late Jack Herbert Hughes and Bobbie Sue Hughes. She was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County.

Along with her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her brothers, Terry Hughes and Gary Hughes.

Connie received her early education and sport championships in the Cherokee County School System. She was later inducted into the Hall of Fame. She went on to graduate from LaGrange College with a degree in Physical Education. She became a Teacher and Coach in Troup and Clayton counties where she received multiple awards of academic and sports achievement. Connie later changed careers and became a Project Manager for IBM Corporation where she retired in 2012.

She is survived by her loving partner of 47 years, Wanda Whitaker of Canton, Georgia; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy (Mark) Magwood of Waleska, Georgia; and nieces and nephews, Stacey Gaglione, Matthew (McKenzie) Hughes, Aimee (Mike) McLean, Kristen (Alia) Hughes, Lori (Christopher) Duffy, Justin McCurley, and Katie (Morgan) Shepard.

Connie will be deeply missed by Wanda, her family, and all those who knew and loved her. The many years, memories, and relationships she shared with those closest to her will remain a lasting part of her legacy.

A celebration of Connie's life will be held at a later date.
