Cornelius "Neil" Coughlin, 86, of Canton, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his residence in Canton, Georgia on May 19, 2025.
Born on December 8, 1938, in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Neil was the son of the late John Joseph Coughlin and Frances A. Coughlin (Harlow). He served his country honorably as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy Reserves for eight years. Following his service, Neil pursued a fulfilling career as an electrical engineer, specializing in HVAC maintenance. His dedication and expertise led to a distinguished 30-year tenure with Merck Pharmaceuticals, from which he retired in 1999.
Neil is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Coughlin; his sons, Cornelius "Neil" Coughlin of Braintree, Massachusetts, Thomas Coughlin of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Michael Coughlin of Union City, New Jersey; his daughters, Dana Sherman of Brodheadsville, Pennsylvania, and Jennifer Miller of Canton, Georgia; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A man of deep faith, Neil was a devoted member of Our Lady of La Salette Catholic Church in Canton. He will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, quiet strength, and steadfast love for his family.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Darby Funeral Home in Canton. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Our Lady of La Salette Catholic Church, with Father Mark Starr officiating. Private interment with United States Naval honors will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Roswell, Georgia.
