Obituary

Dr. David Earl Field was born August 23, 1946 in Atlanta, Georgia at Crawford Long Hospital to Mary Curtis Field and Willard Earl Field. He left this world on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at home, with his loving wife Penny by his side.
Dr. Field attended Marist High School in Atlanta, Georgia from 1960-1964. He spent the next four years at Georgia State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. In 1968, he began studying medicine at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia, and graduated a Doctor of Medicine in 1972. He then spent a year in a rotating internship and family practice residency at The Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia. In October 1973, he moved to Canton, Georgia and started his private family practice (Canton Family Care) with fellow Medical College of Georgia graduate, classmate and friend, Dr. Keith Parmer. Dr. Field would spend 47 years in private practice, during which he touched and healed many lives. He made house calls, went to the local jail, visited his patents in nursing homes, and went to R.T. Jones Hospital to attend to his admitted patients every morning and evening for much of his career. He wanted to be a doctor since he was a boy. Dr. Field loved his patients who never left without a huge hug, after their medical visit at Canton Family Care. The women who worked at Canton Family Care over the years were special people. They were more than employees; they were family.
Dr. Field was a deeply spiritual man. Born a Baptist, he would convert to Catholicism during his time at Marist High School. Dr. Field had God at the center of his life. He prayed daily, often with patients, and had a passion to serve others and his community. He believed that practicing medicine was a privilege and a calling from God.
Besides his love for his patients and his family, Dr. Field loved animals, fishing, hunting, playing the organ at home and at church, listening to music, and of course, beautiful cars. He had music playing in his office, his car and at home, usually a combination of country and showtunes. Chow Chow dogs resided in the Field house for decades and have been well loved and cherished.
Dr. Field is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Penny Thomas Field; his two children, Jennifer Field Mark (Scott Mark) and Eric Curtis Field (Rebecca Field) and two grandchildren, Caroline and Catherine Field; and an older brother, Willard Michael Field (Julie Field). Special thank you to our niece and caregiver, Vickie Jones. Dr. Field is loved and will be missed.
