Obituary

David William Sutton, 73, of Canton, GA, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Northside Cherokee Hospital. Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Christine (Taylor) Sutton and his father Robert Watts Sutton. He is survived by Lorraine Barrette, his wife of 27 years, sister Joyce and Bill Cuffley; sister Gayle Sommers; nephew Brian Cuffley; niece Janet and Gordon Smith; great-nephew Colin Smith; great-niece Caroline Smith; stepson Brian Cinq-Mars; stepdaughter Jennifer and Jorge Bernardo; step-granddaughter Samantha Bernardo; and step-grandson Jack Bernardo.
Dave served three years in the U.S. Army as a Cryptographic Communications Specialist and was honorably discharged. He achieved his AS in Biomedical Engineering from Howard Community College in Columbia, MD.
Dave worked several years as an ASE Certified auto mechanic. Later, he built his career in the IT industry, working for IBM, AB SCIEX, and PerkinElmer Life Sciences. He supported Scientific Analytical Instrumentation, Mass Spectrometer Equipment, Medical Instrumentation, NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) spectrometers, and Network environments.
He also created and managed his own three-tier business under the acronym SMS: Southern Mechanical Services; Southern Magnetics Services; and Southern Maintenance Services. This gave him the opportunity to utilize his many diverse skills. His life was characterized by hard work, strong work ethic, exceptional customer service, strong values, and lasting friendships.
Dave was generous and was always ready and willing to help when situations arose. He could always be counted on to offer his support.
His favorite hobby was classic car restoration. He also enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, reading, and spending time at the beach. He had a particular interest in history and would narrate historical events so well and with such enthusiasm, he would have made a great history teacher.
Dave loved animals. He grew up having pet dogs. But somewhere along his path, his heart was captured by a feline. From that point forward, he was never without at least one cat in his life. The bonds he had with his cats were a true testament to his caring nature. Dave will be sadly missed.
