Deborah Aurora Quigley, lovingly known as Aurora, passed away at the age of 33. Born on April 23, 1993, in Cartersville, Georgia, Aurora was raised in Waleska, Georgia. She was a proud graduate of Cherokee High School, Class of 2012.

To know Aurora was to know a truly beautiful soul. She had a kindness and warmth that touched nearly everyone she met. Aurora was the kind of person who never hesitated to help someone in need, whether they needed a helping hand, a listening ear, or simply someone to be there. She gave of herself freely and loved fiercely.

Aurora believed there was good in everyone. She had a remarkable ability to love people as though she had known them her whole life. She never loved half-heartedly; when she loved someone or something, she gave all of herself to them. Her sister Angela expressed it beautifully: “She will forever be a light in every life she touched; there will never be a warmth like hers.”

Aurora’s personality was impossible to overlook. She was funny, loyal, generous, and full of an energy that her friends described as electric. She had a way of making people laugh, making work more enjoyable, and making ordinary days feel a little brighter. Her family and friends will forever remember the immense joy she brought into their lives.

One of Aurora’s greatest loves was animals. She loved them without judgment and could never turn away an animal she believed needed her. Cats, dogs, ferrets, opossums, squirrels, crows—if an animal needed help, Aurora was there. She rescued them, cared for them, and gave them a safe place to call home. She was especially devoted to her beloved pets: her cats Sterling, Missy, and Salem, and her dogs Dixie and Max. They were not simply animals in her home; they were part of her family and recipients of the enormous love and care she gave so freely.

Aurora shared a deep and beautiful love with her fiancé, Matt. She loved him with everything she had, and he was her partner, her confidant, and the person who shared so much of her life and her heart. Matt described Aurora as his rock, his soulmate, his northern star, his protector, and his savior. He credited her with helping him become the person he was meant to be, and he will forever carry the love they shared.

Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and—very often—animals. Aurora could never pass by an animal in need, and somehow, every time she came home with another rescue, Matt found a way to help her make room. Their home became a reflection of Aurora’s enormous heart and the life they built together.

Aurora was fiercely devoted to her family. As the oldest of her siblings, she remained protective of her brothers and sister even as they grew into adults. She loved them deeply and would always be there to stand beside them.

Her stepfather described Aurora as a light so bright that she made every life she touched better. He cherished her as another daughter and said that their home seemed to have a special spark every time Aurora walked through the door. Her absence has left a space that can never be filled.

Aurora’s friends remember her humor, her unforgettable personality, her beautiful energy, and the countless memories she created with them. She was the kind of friend who could make people laugh, brighten their day, and make them genuinely look forward to spending time with her. Whether rescuing animals, taking on new projects, sharing laughter, or simply being there when someone needed her, Aurora left an imprint on the lives of so many people.

Aurora had a gift for helping others. She cared deeply about people and gave her time, her heart, and her support freely. She touched lives in ways she may never have fully realized, and many people are here today because Aurora chose to care, to help, and to love.

She leaves behind a family, fiancé, and community of friends who are heartbroken by her passing and who will carry her memory with them always. Though her time here was far too short, the love she gave, the joy she brought, and the lives she touched will continue long after her passing.

Aurora was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, namesake, fiancé, friend, rescuer, protector, and a light to so many. Aurora was deeply loved by her mother and father, who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

The world is a little less bright without Aurora in it, but those who loved her will carry her light forever.

Aurora was preceded in death by her sister, Serenity Turner.

She is survived by her fiancé, Matthew Gordy; father and stepmother, Jackie and Christy Chester of Ellijay, Georgia; mother and stepfather, Stephanie and Keith Hill of Waleska, Georgia; grandmother, Elaine Lingerfelt of Jasper, Georgia; grandmother, Laura Friar of Sarasota, Florida; siblings, Jacob Quigley of Enterprise, Alabama, Joseph Chester of Jasper, Georgia, Kyle Hill of Jasper, Georgia, Michael Hill of Jasper, Georgia, Elijah Hill of Waleska, Georgia, Matthew Crowe of Canton, Georgia, Angela Tolbert of Athens, Georgia, and Rebecca Heffner of Waleska, Georgia; uncles, Eugene Hufstetler, Caleb Hufstetler, and Jason Chester; and great-aunt, Deborah (Roger) Joyce. 

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 2:00pm in the chapel of Darby Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1:00pm until the funeral hour.
