Don Berry Akridge passed away peacefully at his home in Canton, Georgia, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Born on November 2, 1945, in Pelham, Georgia, Don was the son of the late Hugh Dorsey Akridge and Veda Willis Akridge.
Don proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a dedicated volunteer at Georgia National Cemetery, where he faithfully gave his time in service to fellow veterans and their families. His commitment to honoring those who served was evident through his instrumental role in helping the cemetery acquire its bell towers, a project to which he also made a generous personal donation.
Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Perry, and his brother, Charles Akridge.
He is survived by his daughters, Jenny Akridge and Karen (Paul) Houghton; his sisters, Brenda (John) Leahy and Sue (Fred) Koberlein; his nieces, Jessica (Chase) Markham, Kenleigh Markham, Tara Markham, and Riley Leahy; and his nephew, J.T. Leahy.
Don also leaves behind the love of his life, Donna McMinn, with whom he shared nearly 11 wonderful years. Donna remained faithfully by his side throughout his courageous battle with cancer, providing unwavering love, strength, and support.
Don will be remembered for his generosity, his devotion to his family, his service to his country, and his commitment to honoring his fellow veterans. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A committal service will be held at 9:00am on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Georgia National Cemetery. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home promptly at 8:00am and those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive at the funeral home no later than 7:50am. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
