Obituary

Donald Clare Vice, of Marietta, GA went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at the age of 87 after a brief battle with cancer.

Don was born on October 22, 1932 to Olive and Russell Vice in Howard, Kansas. After graduating from high school, he went on to kick off his career in insurance and politics, notably managing the successful election campaign of Congressman Lawrence P. McDonald, 7th District, Georgia. Don worked as Press Secretary and District Liaison.

After retiring to live lakeside in Acworth, GA, Don later moved to beautiful Cleveland, GA to live in the mountains. He is remembered for having an insatiable energy, was a lifelong baseball fan, took pride in being a patriot of the USA, enjoyed being an active member of the Acworth United Methodist Church's Chancel Choir, and was someone who "never met a stranger". In addition, he loved to play golf, study the Bible, keep up with politics, visit family, and root for the Atlanta Braves. Don loved to entertain a crowd and most of all, be with family. A phrase he often used and put into practice was, "You've got a friend in me." After a motorcycle accident as a young father, Don had a dramatic conversion experience and gave his life to following Jesus Christ. Throughout the remainder of his adult life Don served in the church in whatever capacity was needed from choir member, to Sunday School teacher, to deacon, to serving meals in the church kitchen.

Don joins his parents, siblings: Mildred, Charles, Herbert, and Tommy, daughter, Vickie, and former-wife, Shirley, in Heaven. He is survived by his beloved sister, Frances Maxine Graham of Olathe, Kansas. He was the patriarch of a large family. He was father to 5 children; Greg Vice, David Vice, Linda Fortenberry, Diane Martin, and Vickie Booth (deceased); grandfather to 11: Colin, Rachel, Ann, Brian, Amanda, Sarah, Melissa, Mark, Adam, Cody and Katelyn; and great-grandfather to 14: Taylor, David, Samuel, Emma, Jett, Johnny, Mia, Rylee, Cade, Beckett, Crosby, Luke, Lilly and Jenny.

A "Celebration of Life" service will be held this summer when we can all gather. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the AUMC ministry/choir in Acworth, GA.
