Obituary

Doris Ann Jones of Waleska, Georgia passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022. Born on March 16, 1936, in Birmingham (Irondale), Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Luther Friedman Jones and Tessie Jane Jones and sister to the late Victor Eugene Jones. She is survived by her beloved niece Linda Lee Jones of Fayetteville, Georgia, and lifelong friend, Deryl Dinkler of Waleska, Georgia, and numerous friends from all walks of life.
Ms. Jones grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1954. During this time, she was involved in many sports and school activities, and she especially excelled in the equestrian arena. After graduation, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia and received her Nurses Training License at DeKalb Medical Center where she began her nursing career at a Long-Term Care Facility in Decatur, Georgia. In 1970 she received her Facilities Administrator's license and became a Long-Term Care Facilities Administrator. This began a long career that spanned 42 years in the Long-Term Care Profession.
In 1995 she joined the PruittHealth Corporation where she worked with Mr. Neil Pruitt, Sr. and Mr. Neil Pruitt, Jr., current chairman and CEO of PruittHealth. She often said these were her "most rewarding years of service." She was a beloved servant leader throughout her career, and Doris always put the patients and their family first. She retired in 2007 after an exemplary career.
In January 2008, Doris decided to run for Mayor of Waleska, Georgia. This was the beginning of a new career. As Mayor, she worked tirelessly with Reinhardt University, the community, and Cherokee County. After 10 successful years she retired in 2018.
A lifelong Christian, Ms. Jones was a member of the Heritage Fellowship Baptist Church in
Canton, Georgia. Doris loved to travel, enjoyed golf, reading, and fishing with her brother Vic, and she was an accomplished artist. Doris loved people and loved to laugh.
The family would like to especially thank Julia Compton, the competent and caring people at
PruittHealth-Jasper, and the Hospice family for their loving care throughout Doris' illness. A
Celebration of Life Service will be held at Darby Funeral Home, 480 East Main Street, Canton, GA 30114 on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 12pm. The family will receive friends at 11am. In lieu of flowers,
