Dorothy (Dot) Nally Cline, age 88, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, at home surrounded by family and devoted caretakers. She was born November 19, 1935, the second of six children to Bud and Virginia Nally. Dot grew up on a dairy farm in Pine Log alongside her brothers and sisters and many cousins. She finished school early at 16 and went to Reinhardt Junior College earning her associates degree. Dot went on to Oglethorpe to earn her bachelor's degree and earn her teaching certificate. Dot proudly taught for the Cherokee County School District for 30 years with most of her years at R.M. Elementary School - which was literally in her back yard. Dot loved games – bunko, dominoes and especially cards. She had a regular bridge game for many years and was a wily Rooke player – always "shooting the moon".
It was at Reinhardt where she met the man who would love her until his passing in 2020 – William (Bill) Cline. Dot kept his picture by her until she passed. Bill built their house himself right on the square in Waleska where they would live the rest of their lives, raise their family and Dot would go out her backyard to work. Dot and Bill had three children – Mike (Tracy) Cline, Vickie (Dave) Lawson and Jenny Hughes and seven grandchildren – Beth (Jason) Watkins, Neely (Austin) Bursmith, Donald Woodward, Brittany (Steven) Thacker, Ali (Lee) Lamb, Lindsey (James) Lovas and Lee (Katie) Cline. Dot also had 10 great-grandchildren – Aniston and Tinley Watkins, Lyla and William Bursmith, Ava and Vance Phillips, Blakeley and Channing Thacker, and Jess and Tobin Lamb.
Dot is survived by two brothers – Ronald (Ruby) Nally of Cartersville, Georgia and Jack (Jewel Nally) of Pine Log, Georgia, and one sister – Sara (John) Bosch of Hobe Sound, Florida. She is preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law – Peggy (James) Cline of Waleska, Georgia. Dot has six nieces and nephews and would have told you she was the favorite aunt of them all.
Dot will be missed by so many as she was such a steady presence in our lives. But we take comfort knowing she is healthy and whole once again and reunited with those who went before her.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to R.M. Moore Elementary School, 1375 Puckett Road, Waleska, Georgia 30183.
