Edward James Tucker's Obituary

Edward J. Tucker, 84 of Canton, GA passed away peacefully at home on November 30, 2016. Ed retired as Director of Human Resources for Home Federal Bank in 1997 and previously was employed in Columbus as Director of Human Resources at Golden Foundry and Cosco Inc. He was a graduate of Norwich High School in Norwich, N.Y. where he was class president for four years. He earned an Associate's degree from the N.Y.S. Institute of Applied Arts & Sciences at Binghamton, N.Y. and a B.S. degree from Cornell University.
In Columbus Ed was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, having served in various capacities including the Vestry, and after moving to Canton, GA in 2007 was a member of St. Clement's Episcopal Church. Ed was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a fourteen year member of the Columbus Ivy Tech board of directors serving two terms as president and the first president of the regional Ivy Tech Foundation. Other past service commitments included membership on the boards of Junior Achievement, Babe Ruth Baseball, First Call for Help and the Ecumenical Assembly. He has been a volunteer for United Way, Agency on Aging and Love Chapel. Additional memberships included Meridian Kiwanis, Elks Club, Greenbelt Senior Golf League, Indiana Personnel Association and the Columbus Art Gallery.
After retirement Ed indulged in his favorite hobbies of golf, travel and oil painting. He became a recognized artist in the Columbus community.
Born in Endicott, N.Y. on January 8, 1932 he was the son of Edward A. and Evetta Braisted Tucker. Survivors include Helen, his loving wife of 55 years, children Stuart and wife Susan of Marietta, GA, Scott and wife Lorna of Marietta, GA, and Steven of La Fayette, GA; grandchildren Grant, Samuel and Sara. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30pm on Tuesday, December 6 at St. Clement's Episcopal Church, 2795 Ridge Rd., Canton, GA with interment to follow at Georgia National Cemetery.
