Edward George Whisler, age 97, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Bellevue Village at Woodstock.

Edward was born on December 8, 1928, in Midland, Michigan, to the late Forrest and Margaret Whisler. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. During his distinguished military career, Edward served in both Korea and Vietnam and was a member of the U.S. Air Force Aeromedical Evacuation Unit serving in the 9th Air Medical Evacuation Group, providing rapid air transport and lifesaving medical care to injured and ill service members and civilians from remote and combat locations to advanced medical facilities.

Following his military career, Edward went on to become a successful realtor. He was also an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Canton Golf Club. Edward was a Mason for more than 60 years and was a member of the Canton Moose Lodge. He took great pride in his military service, his career, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life.

In addition to his parents and several siblings, Edward was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Jean Whisler.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons, Bill (Ruby) Whisler of Acworth, Georgia, Alan Whisler of Acworth, Georgia, and Donald (Lisa) Whisler of Cartersville, Georgia; grandchildren, Sherry Whisler, Billy Whisler, and Caleb Whisler; great-grandchildren, Joshua (Kelsey) Hooper, Ethan Hall, and Brande (Aren) Roland; great-great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Hooper, Karleigh Hooper, Lilly Hooper, Madi Hooper, Elissa Shaw, and Wrenlee Roland; sister, Mary Ungaschick Smith of Olathe, Kansas; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

The family will receive friends for visitation at Darby Funeral Home on Monday, September 7, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services in honor and celebration of Edward’s life will be held in the Chapel of Darby Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with full Air Force Honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Edward's name to Wreaths Across America.
