Edwin Stanley "Stan" Meares II, age 50, passed away on January 22, 2026. He was born on January 2, 1976, in Clayton County, Georgia, to Vicki Morris and Edwin Stanley "Stan" Meares I.
Stan grew up in Fayette County, Georgia, and graduated from Etowah High School in 1993, where he proudly played baseball. From an early age, Stan's life was shaped by teamwork, loyalty, and a love for the outdoors—qualities that stayed with him throughout his life.
Stan had a deep love for the simple joys that made life meaningful. He was a devoted fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, happiest when watching a game surrounded by those he loved. The beach was his place of peace, especially Madeira Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed fishing and soaking in the calm of the water. Whether camping, fishing, or just sharing a laugh, Stan had a gift for making people feel comfortable and happy. His sense of humor and easygoing nature brought light to those around him.
Stan retired from Veolia Water at the age of 38, but his most important and cherished role was being a father. He was a devoted, hands-on dad to his two sons, Lathan and Liam, whom he loved more than anything in the world. Stan was not only their father, but also their biggest supporter, coach, and best friend. He found his greatest joy watching his boys play baseball and basketball, proudly cheering them on and coaching them with patience, encouragement, and love. He always put his sons before himself, showing them through his actions what strength, dedication, and unconditional love truly mean.
Stan was a fighter—strong, resilient, and never one to give up hope. Even in the hardest moments, he faced life with courage and determination, leaving behind an example of perseverance for all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved sons, Lathan Meares and Liam Meares, both of Canton, Georgia; his mother, Vicki Meares, of Canton, Georgia; his sister, Karey Schrock (Brad) of Woodstock, Georgia; and his nephews, Blake Yoder and Dylan Yoder. He is also lovingly remembered by his two Shih Tzus, Remmie and Kobi, who were constant companions.
Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Erica Michelle Dempsey Meares, whom he loved deeply.
The family will receive friends at Darby Funeral Home on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with a memorial service at 11:00 am in the chapel of Darby Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service at the Meares residence, located at 512 Crested Hawk Ridge, Canton, Georgia 30114.
Stan's legacy lives on in the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and most of all, in the lives of his sons. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
